
Benjamin Haemhouts studied the trombone at the Lemmensinstitute in Leuven (B).
Even before finishing his studies, Benjamin Haemhouts became a member of the Rotterdam Philharmonic under Valery Gergjev.
Between 1996 and 2006 he was principal trombone of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra (D).
He performed under famous conductors like Valery Gergiev, Esa Peka Salonen, Gustavo Dudamel, Sir Simon Rattle, Bernard Haitink, Herbert Blomstedt, Kurt Sanderling, Guissepe Sinopoli and Jonathan Nott.
As a composer he mainly wrote works for several wind formations. Most of his works are being performed around the world and have been recorded and published.
Between 1999 and 2001 Benjamin Haemhouts studied orchestral conducting with Alexander Polyanichko and became his assistant at a later point.
As a coach he worked with several international youth orchestras like the Flanders Youth Orchestra, and the 'Junge Deutsche Philharmonie'.
As a professional conductor Benjamin Haemhouts conducted the chamber orchestra 'Beethoven Academie' as an assistant of Alexander Polyanichko, the HermesEnsemble and the 'Symphonische Orchester des Philharmonie Tchernovcy'.
As the artistic director of the Chamber Orchestra of Belgium, Benjamin Haemhouts has an innovative approach by combining the traditional repertoire with new written pieces by upcoming young composers.
